SRSA Boulder Setter

 

Who for: climbers who wish to be a competent boulder setter, culminating with a recognised qualification.

Duration: 1 day.

Ratio: 1:8.

Style: Combined training and assessment.

Pre-requirements: Experience of bouldering, ability to climb F6a/V3.

Equipment: All specialised equipment will be provided.

At completion the candidate will:

    • hold a qualification valid for 3 years, accepted in Scotland plus UK-wide and overseas where accepted;

    • have the ability to strip and set routes on a variety of bouldering walls at various angles;

    • have an understanding of safe setting practices including power tool and ladder usage;
    • have an understanding of relevant legislation

 

Course content

Introductions and course outline.
Equipment, including ladders and power tools.
Bolt types, screws, Allen keys, impact drivers.
Types of holds, including volumes.
Pinning of holds.
Exclusion zones, ladder safety including matting and wall angle considerations, managing work equipment.
Floor-based traverse setting.
Creating upward-movement boulder problems.
Hold cleaning and storage.
Climb and tweak routes, peer feedback.
Risk assessments and relevant legislation.
Review and debriefs.
